Violence against Women on rise

Violence against women, or gender-based violence, is a worldwide problem. Forms of domestic violence can include physical violence, sexual violence, economic control, psychological assault, various threats, emotional abuse, isolation and intimidation. According to the World Health Organization, the United States sees one-third of women murdered each year by their partners. In South Africa, a woman is killed every 6 hours by an intimate partner. In India, 22 women were killed each day in dowry-related murders in 2007.
