British media reports suggest Prince Charles, the first in line of succession to Queen Elizabeth II, has no intention of abdicating power in favor of his sons.

The Daily Star newspaper said Prince Charles’ massive celebration of his 70th birthday last month and the full media coverage that was given to the event was a sign that Charles was ignoring calls that he is too old to become a king and his interventionist style would pose a threat to Britain in future.

The report cited royal family experts as saying that the positive coverage received by Charles for his birthday anniversary may have been at the detriment of his sons William and Harry.

“From my understanding, it seems that there was a push to put Harry and William in their place,” said Lisa Ryan, who covers royal family issues, adding, “Charles is going to be the King, it’s not going to skip over him to William like some outlets have suggested.”

The report also said that Charles had also deliberately “shaded” his sons during the birthday ceremonies by saying William and Harry were not working “as hard as he did” and did not deserve to ascend to the throne in their current situation.

William and Harry have been on the headlines recently as reports suggest they are separating homes following a feud between their wives.

Charles, also known as the Duke of Cornwall, is known to many for his first marriage to Princess Diana, the mother of William and Harry, which led to a bitter divorce.

Some believe Charles, who has a history of launching back-to-back campaigns on social and environmental issues, would seek to interfere in government matters in a level that his mother has avoided to. Charles’ age has also been the case with many saying he would not make a good king at an age in which most men retire.

The Queen, know 92, had ruled Britain for the past 65 years.
