Trump destroying his credibility over Khashoggi case: Pundit
US President Donald Trump is damaging his own reputation by covering up Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s involvement in the killing of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Turkey’s Istanbul on October 2, says a commentator.
Edward Corrigan, international human rights lawyer, told Press TV on Friday that “President Trump is still trying to provide diplomatic cover for Prince Salman.”
“Trump is actually destroying his credibility in the United States and of course destroying his credibility around the world,” Corrigan said.
"So, it is a clear double standard when it comes to heinous acts committed by allies of the United States, because money overrides when it comes to Saudi Arabia and the trend will drive the United States’ reputation into the ground," he added.
At a request from Human Rights Watch, Argentina agreed to proceed with a case against Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over war crimes in Yemen and the murder of Khashoggi as he arrived in the South American country to attend a G20 summit.
However, Trump dismissed a CIA report that the journalist’s death was ordered directly by the Saudi crown prince.
