This episode is a brief section of Suhaib Webb’s speech about the importance of good character in Islam at the Muslim American Society and the Islamic Circle of North America 16th Annual Convention in Chicago. We know that our beloved messenger Muhammad (PBUH) was sent to teach people morality.

The prophet is not only about teaching people religion and religious practices but one of the components of the prophetic teaching is to teach good character. That is very important beacuse the first line of explaining Islam to the people in our communities is our character. Good character doesn’t mean that you are a wimp. You can be bold and strong and relentless and stand in the face of occupation as people try to make the Palestinians invisible in the world. But you can do that with good character as our incredible Palestinian community has continued to do in this country.

You can be a black American and Muslim and face the challenges of systematic racism and white privilege, relentlessly and unconditionally being brave and firm and that will not violate a good character. Good character doesn’t mean to be weak. Good character means to be strong with dignity as our prophet (PBUH) was.
