Rescue operations were underway as police and emergency forces retrieved bodies, which were washed up along the shore, and carried them in tarpaulins to a waiting truck.

The boat was reportedly carrying as many as 90 people, giving way to speculation that many victims' bodies may still be stuck under the wreckage.

The boat was reportedly on a pleasure cruise - a favorite pastime of nearby residents - despite not having a valid permit due to its poor condition.
