Yemeni Ansarullah's peace bid

Yemen’s Ansarullah movement says it will stop drone and missile attacks on Saudi Arabia and its allies to prove its goodwill. In a statement, the movement announced it is getting ready for a broader ceasefire if the Saudi-led coalition is also seeking peace. It added that Ansarullah has taken the decision at the request of the United Nations’ special envoy to accelerate peace talks. Saudi aggression on Yemen began in March 2015. More than 15,000 people, mostly civilians have died since in the Saudi onslaught.

Protest in Mexico against refugees

Mexicans have rallied in northwestern city of Tijuana in protest at the arrival of the Central American refugees on their way to the United States. The protesters shouted "No to the Invasion", a term used by the US president to refer to the influx of the Central American refugees. The demonstrators said the closure of the border with the US will seriously affect Tijuana’s economy. The rally was held near a shelter the local government provided for some 2500 Central American refugees. The police, however, blocked the protesters from reaching the shelter. The rally was met with a pro-refugee march in the city; with some saying xenophobia is a position contrary to the origin of Tijuana, which is a city of migrants.

Brexit transition extension?

The European Union’s chief Brexit negotiator says the divorce transition period can be extended to the end of 2022. Michel Barnier made the remarks at a special meeting with ambassadors from the EU’s member states. Barnier’s comments come as London and Brussels have already agreed a transition period of 21 months, which will start after the March 2019 deadline. The British government has previously suggested an extension of only a few months, but the bloc says London needs to make a formal proposal. Each year of the transition period extension would cost Britain billions of euros. Critics of Theresa May’s Brexit policy say such a move will force the UK to follow all EU laws while having no ministers or members in the European Parliament.

Reshuffle in US administration

The US president is planning to make several key staffing changes in the wake of midterm elections. Donald Trump said he has three or four or five positions that he’s thinking about. The president did not rule out the possibility that his chief of staff John Kelly might be leaving. Trump is among the fastest US presidents to fire his senior officials. Several of his key appointees, including National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had some of the shortest tenures in the history of their respective offices.

Israeli spying cameras

Israel presses ahead with a new phase of the so-called Eye of Jerusalem, installing hundreds of surveillance cameras in the East Jerusalem al-Quds and the old city. Palestinians say the move will impose new restrictions on their movement, describing it as provocative. Fatima Abdul-Karim reports.

California wildfire

People in California have held a vigil for the victims of the devastating wildfire in the north of the American state. The vigil was held in the city of Chico in northern California. Mourners gathered at a church to pray for the lives and community lost in the Camp Fire. The blaze is said to be the deadliest and most destructive in California’s history. So far, 77 people have been killed. More than 990 others remain missing. To the south, the Woolsey Fire has also killed three people. The wildfires broke out on November 8, and have not been fully contained. Rain is expected this week, giving relief to firefighters. But, officials say, there’s a threat of floods and mudslides. On Saturday, US President Donald Trump visited both fire zones.
