Trump says easily answered Mueller Russia questions

US President Donald Trump says he has finished writing answers to questions related to the investigation into alleged Russian intervention in the 2016 US presidential election.

Trump, who was speaking to reporters on Friday, also said he answered the questions from special counsel Robert S. Mueller III “very easily,” but expressed his concern about why Mueller wanted them.

“My lawyers don’t write answers. I write answers. I was asked a series of questions. I’ve answered them very easily,” Trump said.

“I’m sure they’re tricked-up because, you know, they like to catch people,” Trump said, referring to questions he said could be designed to result in perjury charges. “You have to always be careful when you answer, with people that probably have bad intentions. Now, the questions were very routinely answered by me.”

Trump has repeatedly denied allegations that his campaign colluded with Moscow and has condemned the ongoing investigations, drawing accusations from Democratic and Republican lawmakers alike that he is ignoring a threat to American democracy.

On Friday, he once again described the investigation as a “witch hunt,” saying there was no collusion at all.

“There should have never been a so-called investigation, which, in theory, it’s not an investigation of me. But ... as far as I’m concerned, I like to take everything personally because you do better that way,” Trump said.

The US has introduced several rounds of sanctions against the government of President Vladimir Putin for Russia’s meddling in the US democratic process, an accusation Moscow time and again denied.
