Yemen major operation

Yemen’s Ansarullah movement says the Saudi-led coalition’s move to halt its attacks against the port city of Hudaydah is used as a pretext to prepare for a stronger invasion. Ansarullah spokesman, Mohammad Abdulsalam said the coalition’s call to a halt in fighting is part of its propaganda campaign. He said Riyadh and its allies are seeking to falsely portray that their move was aimed at facilitating humanitarian aid amid pressure from the international community. The spokesman added that the Saudi-led coalition continued its attacks on Yemen despite its announcement of cessation of air strikes. Abdulsalam stressed that the war will come to an end only through a political solution. On Thursday, forces loyal to Yemen's former president announced that they have stopped their offensive against Hudaydah.

Saudi findings ‘untrustworthy’

A prominent rights group says the findings of a Saudi probe into the killing of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi are not trustworthy. Amnesty International says the findings by a Saudi prosecutor followed what it describes as a sham inquiry into the case. The international rights body is urging an independent investigation by the United Nations. It says this is the only way to uncover the truth and hold those responsible to account. Meanwhile, reports emerging from Turkey suggest Ankara has new evidence that contradicts Saudi Arabia's latest version of events. Turkish officials are said to have in possession of a second audio recording that proves the killing was premeditated. The former U-S ambassador to Saudi Arabia has also dismissed the Kingdom's latest narrative.

Brexit battle

Britain’s ruling conservative party has reportedly gathered enough signatures to go ahead with a no confidence vote against Prime Minister, Theresa May. According to British media, the party has received letters from the required 48 Tory lawmakers. Sources say Downing Street is making preparations for a no confidence motion. Earlier, May vowed to resist a leadership challenge as the resignations of four cabinet ministers over her Brexit plan have thrown her government into turmoil.

Rapping UN resolution

Iran has condemned a UN resolution that accuses Tehran of human rights violations, describing the motion as politically-motivated. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman stressed that the resolution ignores the reality in the country and that it was approved based on a selective, discriminatory and biased approach. Bahram Qassemi said some western countries, the Israeli regime and few reactionary regional states wanted to make the resolution a pretext to gain their QUOTE radical goals. The Iranian diplomat added that the Islamic Republic has been determined to improve human rights and fulfill its international commitments through constructive cooperation and procedures based on dialogues.

California inferno

Rescue workers have recovered 7 more bodies of wildfire victims in the US state of California as the number of people listed as missing jumps past 600. The recovery of new bodies brings to 63 the number of people already dead in the so-called Camp Fire in northern California. At least three other people were killed in southern California in yet another blaze dubbed the Woolsey Fire. President Donald Trump is set to visit California on Saturday to meet with victims of the wildfires. California officials say the fire is the most destructive and the deadliest ever in the state’s history. The fire which started last week was allegedly begun after a high voltage transmission line failed, igniting a vegetation fire.
