ATP finals: Djokovic crushes Isner in straight sets

Novak Djokovic has made a stunning start at the ATP World Tour finals with a-straight-sets victory over John Isner at the O2 Arena in London.

The 31-year old Serb dominated from start to finish as he broke his American opponent in the 5th game of the first set to lead 3-2 before taking it 6-4.

The 5-time ATP finals champion paced it up in the 2nd set, which he won 6-3 to seal his 50th win of the season after an hour and 13 minutes.

Djokovic finished the match with 22 winners and just 6 unforced errors. Isner, who came into the tournament after Rafael Nadal’s pull-out with injury, had 23 winners and 26 mistakes.

Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev begun his ATP World Tour finals campaign with a hard-fought victory as he defeated Marin Cilic in Straight Sets.

It was a close contest, with both players delivering a perfect performance, but Zverev edged the 1st set 7-6. In the 2nd, Cilic moved into a 4-3 lead, following a series of groundstroke errors from his German opponent.

But, Zverev quickly regrouped again and pounced-on several mis-timed forehand-attacks from Cilic, as the set entered another tie break. The 21-year-old German kept his composure, and managed to beat his Croat opponent, in a tightly contested encounter.
