Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia has won his 1st New York City Marathon in 5 attempts, following a powerful surge in the final stages.
Desisa won in 2 hours, 5 minutes and 59 seconds, while fellow Ethiopian, Shura Kitata Tola, finished 2nd, around 2 seconds behind.
The defending champion, Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor of Kenya, came-in 3rd. Meanwhile, Daniel Romanchuk became the 1st American to win the men's wheelchair race, in a time of one hour, 36 minutes and 21 seconds.
