Major car accident kills 14, injures 34 in China

A 31-vehicle pile-up on an expressway killed 14 people and injured 34 others on Saturday evening in northwest China's Gansu Province.

According to information released by the accident handling command, a heavy-duty, semi-trailer towing truck lost control and crashed into a line of 31 vehicles waiting at a toll gate in Lanzhou, the capital of northwest China's Gansu Province, at about 21:30.

Up to the present, 14 people were reported to have died, 34 others injured, and all the 31 vehicles were damaged to varying degrees.

The local traffic police sent more than 260 officers and men to the accident site to control traffic, rescue the injured, and give first-aid treatment.

All the injured were sent to a hospital, and the injured truck driver was put under investigation.
