Iran targets terrorists

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says it has pounded an area east of the Euphrates where masterminds of last month’s terrorist attack in Iran were present. The IRGC targeted the terrorists with ballistic missile, leaving a large number of terrorists dead. Dozens of people were killed on September 22 when a terrorist attack hit a military parade in the southern Iranian city of Ahvaz. Civilian spectators, including a four-year-old boy, were among the victims. The IRGC had pledged a deadly revenge against the terrorists and their backers.

Palestinians under attack

Israeli forces clash with Palestinians in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah. Israeli troops fired tear gas at Palestinians, injuring several people. The clashes erupted after soldiers broke into several buildings in the city. They also raided a pharmaceutical company and arrested a number of its employees. Tel Aviv has not explained why its army carried out the attacks. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians in Jerusalem al-Quds. They beat up civilians and damaged stores and cars.

Disaster in Indonesia

The powerful tsunami triggered by an earthquake in Indonesia on Friday has left at least 832 people dead. Authorities fear that the number might jump to thousands. Search and rescue workers are racing against the clock to help many people still unaccounted for.

Merkel blasts Trump’s policies

The German chancellor has warned the US president about rejecting globalism and protecting only American interests. In her speech, Angela Merkel warned Donald Trump against undermining the United Nations and the climate protection agreement. She said the UN is not perfect, but, destroying it without a replacement is highly dangerous. Merkel added that Germany wanted a reform in the UN Security Council for years. In reaction to US president’s denunciation of euro, Merkel said the currency is an assurance for peace and Europe needs to protect it.

Kavanaugh probe

The US president has accused Democrats of only being interested in delaying and obstructing the FBI probe of his Supreme Court pick, Brett Kavanaugh. In a tweet, Donald Trump added that no investigation, regardless of its time and scope, will convince Democrats. Earlier, the White House spokeswoman rejected any suggestions that the Trump administration was seeking to micromanage the FBI inquiry. Sarah Sanders, however, underlined that the process should not become a total fishing expedition by the FBI. On Friday, Trump ordered the FBI to probe sexual misconduct claims against Kavanaugh after the Senate delayed a final vote on his confirmation as a Supreme Court member.

Intl. help for Indonesia

Indonesia has agreed to accept international help for disaster response three days after a tsunami earthquake hit the Southeast Asian country. The Indonesian government has deployed military units to take part in search and rescue operations, but they lack equipment and heavy machinery. Authorities are also struggling to distribute food and water to the survivors since they have been left homeless and in desperate need of essentials. The tsunami earthquake has killed hundreds of people so far and authorities are expecting the number to rise.

US-Canada trade deal

Canada says it has agreed with the terms of a new trade deal with the United States and Mexico. The new deal will replace the trilateral North American Free Trade Agreement known as NAFTA. The deal comes after more than a year of tough negotiations to replace NAFTA which was criticized by US President Donald Trump. Mexico and the US agreed on new terms in August. But, several sticking points with Canada remained, including a greater access by the US to Canadian dairy markets. The new deal now allows that access. It has also resolved a dispute on auto tariffs. The Trump administration plans to send the new deal to Congress to be reviewed within 60 days. After that, Trump can sign it.
