Kavanaugh’s confirmation secures Trump’s job: Analyst

Myles Hoenig, an analyst

US President Donald Trump is pushing to get Judge Brett Kavanaugh appointed into the Supreme Court as soon as possible in order to protect his job against possible legal actions by his opponents in future, an American analyst says.

Myles Hoenig, who ran for the US Congress in 2016 as a Green Party candidate, told Press TV on Sunday Trump chose Kavanaugh for political reasons.

“Some would argue that this would be further proof of obstruction of justice by President Trump but packing the Supreme Court will help to eliminate any real threat to him and turn everything political rather than judicial and criminal,” Hoenig said. “That’s Trump’s strength.”

One reason Kavanaugh’s information is so important to Trump is a case before the Court that “addresses Trump’s own potential legal problems,” he said.

Called Gamble v. United States, the case “would allow for his associates to be pardoned and not prosecuted in state courts,” Hoenig added.

Kavanaugh is under an FBI investigation over allegations of sexual assault by a number of women back in 1980s, when he was a student at Yale.

Both Kavanaugh and the White House have denied the charges and accused the Democrats of running a smear campaign to postpone the confirmation process until after the midterm congressional elections early next month.

While the Trump administration insists that the FBI is free to dig deep, several sources have told the media that the White House is closely following the probe and is even micromanaging it to prevent a public relations disaster.

Pointing to Trump’s history of constantly attacking the FBI in the past, Hoenig said the bureau would be happy to find “dirt” on either Trump or his people.

“However, President Trump has hamstrung their investigation, limiting what they can look into. It is unlikely that they would disobey the conditions of the investigation,” the analyst argued.

Trump himself is accused of obstruction of justice in a high-profile investigation into alleged ties with Russia.
