Iran's Rouhani orders urgent investigation into deadly road collision
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has offered his condolences over a bloody road accident in central Iran, ordering local officials to immediately investigate the cause of the incident.
At least 21 people were killed and more than 25 others injured when a passenger bus and a fuel tanker collided on a road connecting the cities of Natanz and Kashan late Monday.
The collision occurred after the tanker swerved to one side, hit the bus and triggered a fireball that engulfed both vehicles.
In a message on Tuesday, Rouhani said the “bitter and tragic” accident, which led to the death of a number of people, has filled the Iranian nation’s hearts with grave grief and sorrow.
He called on provincial officials to find an effective treatment of the injured.
"Unfortunately, repetition of such tragic, irreparable road accidents indicates that there are technical, managerial and supervisory shortcomings that must be taken into serious attention by related officials," the Iranian president said.
He added that Iranian authorities "must find a fundamental solution so that no one will witness such tragic incidents again in the country."
Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi also in separate messages expressed their condolences over the fatal incident.
Back in July, 11 people also lost their lives as a fuel tanker collides with a passenger bus in Iran’s western city of Sanandaj, Kordestan’s provincial capital.
The incident happened after the tanker crashed into the Tehran-bound bus.
Iran has a high death rate resulting from road traffic accidents in the world.
The high number of deaths in traffic accidents comes despite major steps taken by the Iranian government over the past years for the enhancement of the quality of the country’s roads and improvement of the safety standards in automotive industry.
