Simon Yates has won the Vuelta a Espana title to complete an unprecedented clean sweep of British victories in this year's Grand Tours.

Although Elia Viviani of Italy won the 100.9 kilometer final stage of the 21-day race on Sunday, it was the 26-year-old Yates who successfully defended his overall lead of 1 minute 46 seconds over the second  placed Enric Mas Nicolau of Spain.

The Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez finished third overall, 2 minutes and 4 seconds behind.

With the win, Yates completed a hat-trick of victories for British riders in the Grand Tours this year after Chris Froome won the Giro d'Italia in May and Geraint Thomas captured the Tour de France in July.
