Does the Execution Video Prove the US Is Destabilising Cameroon?

Does the execution video prove the US is destabilising Cameroon? Cameroon’s armed forces have “free reign to kill and torture.” This is how a researcher has described the country’s state brutality. The current crisis in Cameroon has just seen two main cocoa exporters withdrawing their buyers from the southwest region following threats and harassment from secessionist groups. Security has deteriorated significantly since late last year and now clashes with separatists are an almost daily occurrence. But it’s the horrifying video obtained by Amnesty International that has made the most devastating impact. The video shows Cameroonian security forces shooting at least a dozen unarmed people during a so-called military operation. And Cameroon’s reputation on the global stage is on the line. The Cameroonian government has denied the authenticity of the footage and says the video attempts to undermine President Paul Biya ahead of elections later this year.
