US President Donald Trump is pursuing the policy of ‘divide and rule’ by threatening to withdraw the country from the World Trade Organization (WTO), says an analyst.

“This latest threat to exit WTO goes in the same direction as has his trade wars with the EU and China, and also of course now with his negotiations with NAFTA [the North American Free Trade Agreement],” Peter Koenig told Press TV in an interview on Friday.

“What Trump is doing or attempting to do with tariffs and with sanctions is dividing the world, breaking up alliances, for example trade alliances in the case of WTO..., it is the old rule ‘divide and conquer’ and conquer in this case means that when alliances like WTO… are broken up, the US will engage in bilateral agreements with individual countries and nations,” he added.
