In the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, another big victory for Team Iran as Hossein Keyhani has won the gold medal in the men’s 3,000-meters steeplechase.
Keyhani passed the finish-line with a time of 8 minutes, 22.79 seconds to set a new record for the Asian Games. Meanwhile, Athletes from Qatar and Japan finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. With the victory, Iran have now bagged 17 gold medals sitting in 5th place on the table, after day 9 of the tournament.
Earlier, Iranian weightlifters won the gold and silver medals in the super heavyweight category. Behdad Salimi lifted 208 kilograms in snatch, and 253 kilograms in clean and jerk to secure the gold medal with a total of 461 kilograms.
Behind him was his fellow Iranian Saeed Ali-Hosseini, who also lifted 208 kilograms in snatch and 248 in clean and Jerk, to finish 2nd with a total of 456 kilograms. Uzbekistan’s Rustam Jangabaev was 3rd, with a total of 455 kilograms.
There was even more triumph for Iran, as Bahman Asgari also won a gold medal in the men’s Karate minus 75kg category. In the final match, Asgari beat his Saudi opponent 5-nothing to secure the win. Before that, he had defeated players from Afghanistan, Mongolia, Thailand and Chinese Taipei.
In the women’s competitions, Pegah Zangeneh of Iran grabbed the Bronze in the minus 68kg category. Zangeneh beat her Vietnamese opponent 10-nothing in the 3rd-place match.
