Iran at 2018 Asian Games: Day 3 Highlights

In the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, Iran’s Saeed Rajabi has grabbed a gold in the men’s Taekwondo plus 80 kilogram category on the 3rd day of the competition. 

Rajabi overcame his Uzbek opponent Dmitriy Shokin in the golden round. He previously beat opponents from South Korea, China and Kazakhstan. Iran also won 2 silvers in Poomsae category through Korosh Bakhtiyar and Marjan Salah-shouri on Sunday.

Also in the Asian Games, Iran’s Wushu practitioner Zahra Kiani, has grabbed the silver medal in the Taolu routine. 

Kiani managed to collect 9.71 points to register the 2nd highest score in the competition behind her Chinese opponent and settled for the silver. Kiani also became the first Iranian woman to win a Taolu routine medal at the Asian Games.

That’s while Iran’s wrestlers pocketed 2 bronze medals in Greco-Roman style on Tuesday. In the 60-kg category, Mehrdad Mardani took the third place with an 8-nothing win over his Uzbek opponent, Islomjon Bakhramov.  

And in the 67-kg category Mohammadreza Geraei overpowered Hung Yinghua from Chinese Taipei 11-nothing to wrap up the victory in less than a minute.

Meanwhile in Kabaddi, Iran have held on to their winning streak in their 4th match of the group stage, defeating Malaysia 58-24. The Iranians previously beat South Korea, Japan and Pakistan. Next up for Iran is Nepal. 

And so far in the Medal Standings: China sit at the top with 30 gold and a total of 60 medals. Japan, South Korea and Indonesia are 2nd to 4th respectively, while Iran stand in 5th place with 4 gold medals, 3 silvers and 5 bronze.
