UN Proposes New Force to Protect Palestinians
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has put forward options meant to protect Palestinian civilians. They include a breakthrough proposal to deploy an armed military or police force to the occupied territories to protect the Palestinians against Israeli violence. This followed concerns over the surge of violence in the Gaza Strip that has so far left over 170 Palestinians killed and many more wounded. Meanwhile, Israel has rejected the UN chiefs proposals and has tried to portray the Palestinians, themselves, as blameworthy for the violence.
