US President Donald Trump is “disingenuous” in his efforts to help African Americans, disgraced White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman says, warning that her former boss is trying to start a race war.

“We have a lot to lose right now,” Manigault Newman told MSNBC on Sunday, referring to Trump’s push to gain support among African-American voters. “I believe he wants to start a race war in this country.”

Commonly referred to by her first name, Omarosa rose to fame through Trump’s popular reality TV show The Apprentice.

Her popularity and seemingly strong links with Trump helped her land a top job in the White House as director of communications for an office that dealt with various constituency groups.

However, somewhere along the road the relationship collapsed and the president turned on the aide. Finally, in December last year, tensions hit the boiling point and White House Chief of Staff John Kelley fired Omarosa for “significant integrity issues.”

In this AFP file photo taken on December 01, 2015, Omarosa Manigault Newman (L) appears alongside Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump (R) during a press conference.

The disgraced White House aide distanced herself from politics for several months only to return with an incendiary book that she says further exposes Trump’s racism.

In a flurry of interviews to promote her book “Unhinged: An Insider's Account of the Trump White House” over the past few days, Omarosa has openly called Trump a “racist” and threatened to publish a stash of audio and video recordings of him using obscene language about African Americans.

During her MSNBC interview, Manigault Newman doubled down on her previous claims that Trump was not sincere in his efforts to help blacks and other minorities.

“Every single time he had some type of issue with the community, I was there,” she said. “The one thing I realized once I was there was he was disingenuous to his commitment to diversity.”

Trump has played down the media blitz around Omarosa’s claims, calling her a “low life” and a “dog” who used to shower him with praise.

The president has even trolled Omarosa by publishing an online video that shows her saying flattering things about him.

Omarosa responded to Trump’s attacks, saying the president’s behavior was detrimental to his position.

“[Trump] has taken the presidency to the gutter when he reduces this important office to name-calling,” she said. She has also claimed that the Trump team offered her hush money after dismissal.

Trump holding wife, Melania, hostage

Among the many controversial claims that Omarosa makes in Unhinged, one about First Lady Melania Trump stands out.

Referring to Trump’s brutal policies to curb illegal immigration, Omarosa writes in her book that the president made an alleged “visa payoff” in 1996 to make Melania's immigration to the US from Slovenia possible.

She goes one step further, claiming that Trump is holding his wife hostage and would not hesitate to deport her if she ever divorces him.

"If Melania were to try to pull the ultimate humiliation and leave him while he's in office, he would find a way to punish her," Manigault Newman wrote in the book, according to the Mercury News.
