The Iran men’s national handball team has failed to overcome the Qatari squad in a match at the preliminary round of the 2018 Asian Games, and yet managed to advance to the next level of the continental event.

On Friday, the Iranian side, which had trounced Malaysia 55-11 two days earlier, lost to the Qatari side 20-35 in a Group A match played at the POPKI Sport Hall in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta.

Even though the Iranian handball squad was beaten in the fixture, it could book itself a place in the main round of the tournament.
