Caspian Sea Summit Agreement

The presidents of the five countries bordering the resource-rich Caspian Sea on Sunday signed a landmark convention on the sea's legal status after more than two decades of discussions. The convention is believed to have now prepared the grounds for talks over two remaining issues. Determining the maritime borders and dividing the seabed among the littoral states. Let’s have a closer look at what the Caspian Convention is about in this report. The Caspian Sea Convention was indeed the most serious step taken to determine the legal status of the sea over the past decades. It was drawn up in 24 articles and is considered to be the basis for future talks on the most contentious issue still to be resolved which is the maritime border. An important point in the convention is that it emphasizes that all things regarding the Caspian Sea need to be agreed on through the consensus of all littoral states.
