Bangladesh: Police baton-charge protesting students in Dhaka

Thousands of students were dispersed by police in Dhaka on Monday, following more than a week of mass protests demanding road safety across the country.

Police and members of Bangladesh's Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were seen dispersing and beating students with batons.

The protests were ignited by the deaths of two students who were allegedly killed by a bus in Dhaka on July 29.

According to data collected by the World Health Organisation, more than 3,000 people are killed in road accidents in Bangladesh every year.
