Tens of thousands of dollars have reportedly been donated this year for legal defense expenses of US President Donald Trump’s allies in the so-called Russia probe.
A Los Angeles developer who has been a large political contributor to Trump gave the highest donation in the most recent quarter, Politico reported Monday, citing obtained filings.

To raise money amid the investigations, a trio of lawyers set up a new legal defense fund in February, called the Patriot Legal Expense Fund Trust, which is being managed by former New York GOP congresswoman Nan Hayworth.
“Philip Ruffin, a billionaire casino mogul who has worked with Trump and accompanied him to Moscow for the Miss Universe Pageant in 2013, contributed $50,000 in April, the documents show. Continental Resources Inc., an oil shale company whose CEO, Harold Hamm, has advised Trump on policy, kicked in $25,000 in May,” read the report.
This is while a Virginia-based consulting firm called Proactive Communications was the only one to raise funds in the first quarter, which ended March 31, amounting to $22,000.
Trump and his allies are being investigated by US special counsel Robert Mueller over alleged collusion with Russia.
Ever since Trump was inaugurated in January 2017, the US intelligence community has overwhelmingly maintained that Moscow sought to meddle in the 2016 election.
Russia has denied meddling in the election as well as being in possession of any damaging information on the US president.
