Iranian taekwondo practitioner Parisa Javadi

Iranian athletes have clinched two medals, including one silver, at the 2018 Jeju Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships.

On Friday and the third day of the tournament in Jeju Island off the southern coast of South Korea, Parisa Javadi managed to overcome competitors from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong in the minus 57-kilogram weight class, and advanced to the semifinals.

The Iranian taekwondo practitioner, however, could not defeat an opponent from Hong Kong and settled for the bronze medal.

Earlier in the competitions, Maryam Malakoutikhah had lost the final showdown of the minus 46-kilogram weight category to a representative from the host nation, and claimed a silver medal.

The 2018 Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships started on July 18 and will close on July 24, 2018.
