US wans UK on Brexit fallout

The US president has warned that British Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plan would kill the prospects for a free trade deal with the United States. Donald Trump said May's proposal for a business-friendly Brexit plan would leave it too close to the European Union, and that would put a new trans-Atlantic trade deal in doubt. May's plan requires Britain to share some EU rules after it leaves the bloc next March. Trump, who began a visit to Britain, praised former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson who quit the UK government in pretest at May's Brexit proposal. Trump said Johnson would make a great prime minister. Brexit supporters within May's Conservative Party are concerned that she is making too many concessions to the EU.

The Syrian army has recaptured the southern city of Dara’a from foreign-backed militants following weeks of heavy battles. The army pushed their way into areas that were under the control of the militants and hoisted the national flag there. The final push into the city happened after militants agreed to put down their arms through a deal facilitated by a Russian military delegation. The government troops on Tuesday also liberated the town of Tafas in Dera’a province.

Figures show China’s monthly trade surplus with the US was nearly $29 billions. This is the highest surplus in any month since 1999. China also said both its imports and exports with the US rose in the first half of 2018. Washington has warned that it may ultimately impose tariffs on more than $500 billions worth of Chinese goods. The dispute has jolted global financial markets.
