Iranian wushu practitioners have managed to clinch two silver medals at the seventh edition of the World Junior Wushu Championships in Brazil, thanks to the fine physical and mental skills they displayed at the prestigious tournament.
On Thursday, Mehdi Khani tallied 8.92 points in the 12-15 age group of boys’ Nanquan form of Taolu, and finished in the second place.
A contestant from China took the top honor, having collected 9.04 points.
A representative from Malaysia notched 8.91 points to land in the third spot.
Nanquan usually requires less flexibility and has fewer acrobatics than Changquan, but it also requires greater leg stability and power generation through leg and hip coordination.
Later in the day, Fatemeh Jazini pocketed the second silver medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran in the 12-15 age group of girl’s Daoshu competitions, having earned 9.10 points.
Her Macanese opponent gained 9.12 points and snatched the gold medal, while an athlete from Hong Kong took away the bronze medal with 9.06 points.
Daoshu is a form of Taolu, where the participant uses a sword as the main element of the routine.
The seventh edition of the World Junior Wushu Championships opened on July 9, and will run through July 16, 2018.
