Status of refugees in Iran

Iran is home to over 3 million immigrants who are allowed to live with the Iranians, go to school, have jobs and lead a dignified life like other Iranians.

Unlike the self-professed defenders of human rights that is the US and some of the EU countries, Iranian government gives the refugees and immigrants, even the illegal ones, all the services required for a dignified life.

Immigrants make up 4 percent of Iran's population. They have insurance, free education, jobs and many other things. This is while the US government is doing all in its power to discourage new immigrants into its soil.

Iran, a country which is under the heaviest sanctions in history, is home to over 3 million immigrants who are allowed to live with the Iranians, go to school, have jobs and lead a dignified life like other Iranians. Iran has been hosting only 3 million Afghans over the past 40 years. Immigrants have insurance benefits. 36000 of them even have Social Security Insurance.

There are 452000 refugee and displaced students from which 420000 are Afghans who are studying at different stages. They don’t have to pay for education; it is free. The government of Iran makes expenditure for a refugee student as much as it does for an Iranian student. Statistics show that these refugee students cost Iran 250 million dollars annually. This is while the financial aid in this filed given to Iran by the international organizations and UNHCR has been meager.
