Palestine Activism:Student Momentum

In this episode Malaka Shwaikh a Palestinian from East Gaza (Shuja'iyya) shares her experience of how to get out of Gaza for studying a Master Degree at Sheffield University in the UK. After a few months of her study she ran for a position of being an education officer. This is the first time that she faced Israeli’s lobby. Those who didn’t want a Palestinian in such position and tried to stop students to vote for her. But they failed as Malaka Shwaikh stood out for winning the highest ever number of votes in the student union’s history. This became an opportunity for her to be an activist for Palestinians’ rights and a platform to describe Gaza’s people struggles. This was not an easy task as she was facing various allegations and a victim of smear campaign. She is now a PhD candidate at Exeter University and Vice President Postgraduate Research, where the struggles against her and Palestinians are still on.
