Americans protest against Trump's immigration policy
Thousands of Americans have staged demonstrations across the country to protest against US President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy on immigration that separated children from migrant parents on the US-Mexico border.
Thousands of protesters gathered outside the White House on Saturday and chanted "shame, shame" and demanded that the detained children be reunited with their parents.
The protest in Washington, DC is part of a wave of nationwide demonstrations against the Trump administration which began seeking in May to prosecute all adults who cross the border without authorization.
Thousands of protesters also gathered in the downtown of New York City. They were chanting “Shame!” and singing “Shut detention down!”
The demonstrators gathered under the sweltering sun at a Manhattan park before they marched across the Brooklyn Bridge to Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn, near the federal courthouse.

The Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy towards illegal immigration has led to family separations at the US border with Mexico.
Facing overwhelming bipartisan backlash, the US president signed an executive order last Wednesday to halt the separations.
The Republican president has vowed to crack down on immigration but has failed to get his complete agenda through so far.

More than 2,000 separated children are currently in the US government's custody, according to the Department of Homeland Security, which claims that it is aware of their locations and is making an effort to reunite them with their families.
