US-North Korea summit

In front of a row of US and North Korean flags, a previously unthinkable sight, the two countries’ leaders shook hands in a historic Tuesday summit in Singapore. Decades-long hostilities could definitely not come to an end in a one-day meeting. But both US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sounded optimistic about the possibility of sorting out key differences.

Battle for Hudaydah

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have launched a major offensive on Yemen’s port city of Hudaydah to take it out of the hands of Ansarullah Houthi fighters. The offensive has already been described as the biggest in a three-year war that the Saudi-led coalition has waged on Yemen. The United Nations has warned that the battle for Hudaydah will put the lives of more than 200,000 Yemenis at risk. And relief agencies say the fall of the port city could plunge the whole country into full-scale famine.
