Jordan’s Saudi bailout

The largest protests in years which rocked Jordan earlier this month have forced some Persian Gulf countries to take action. On Sunday, Saudi Arabia hosted a regional summit to address the ongoing crisis in Jordan. Protests erupted across the crisis-hit country against price hikes and a controversial tax reform bill backed by the International Monetary Fund. At the summit, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait promised Jordan $2.5bn in aid to ease its economic problems.

Spain’s secession crisis

A new headache for Spain. Tens of thousands of people from Spain's Basque country have joined hands to form a human chain running some 202 kilometers to demand the right to hold a regional independence referendum. Spain's Constitution, which was drawn up in 1978 after the fall of dictator Francisco Franco's regime, stipulates that the country is indivisible. This comes in the wake of the downfall of the former Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and the formation of a new government.
