UK minister resigns over May’s Brexit war with MPs

Philip Lee, a UK justice minister

A British justice minister has announced his resignation in protest to the government’s “wish to limit” UK parliament’s role in London’s bid to leave the European Union (EU).

“The main reason for my taking this decision now is the Brexit process and the government’s wish to limit parliament’s role in contributing to the final outcome in a vote that takes place today,” Phillip Lee said on his website on Tuesday.

“If, in the future, I am to look my children in the eye and honestly say that I did my best for them I cannot, in all good conscience, support how our country’s exit from the EU looks set to be delivered,” he added.

The resignation came as Prime Minister Theresa May was facing crucial votes over her Brexit legislation on Tuesday and Wednesday.
