Thousands of people took to the streets of Valparaiso on Friday to protest against the government, as President Sebastian Pinera delivered his annual address before Congress.

Police used water cannons to disperse protesters, who had encroached upon the Congress building. Seven people were subsequently arrested.

The demonstration was organized by the feminist movement, student organizations and trade unions against what they believe is a "sexist education" policy propagated and protected by the current government.
