Here is a brief look at Press TV newsroom's headlines from 18:00 GMT, May 30, 2017 to 08:00 GMT, May 31, 2018.

Palestinian appeal

Palestine’s permanent envoy to the UN Security Council says it is time for the international community to ‘right a historic wrong.’ Mansour was speaking at an emergency session of the Security Council on the Israel-Gaza conflict. The meeting was held at the request of the US to condemn rocket attacks from Gaza into Israel. But council member, Kuwait blocked the US move.

US-North Korea talks

A top North Korean official is in the US for talks ahead of an on-off summit between the countries’ leaders. General Kim Yong Shol and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have met to pave the way for the summit. Earlier, the White House expressed optimism about the summit. A White House spokesperson said the US expects the summit to happen on June 12 as scheduled. Washington wants Pyongyang to end its nuclear and missile activities. North Korea has in return made some demands of the US including security guarantees.

Children at risk

An international NGO says more than half of the world’s children are at risk of poverty, conflict or sexual discrimination. Save the Children says 1.2 billion children worldwide face at least one of the three main threats while 153 million are facing all of them. The study also shows the situation has improved in 95 out of 175 countries but deteriorated in some 40 others. According to the report, some 20 countries including South Sudan, Somalia, Yemen and Afghanistan are among the worst places for children.

'US must withdraw from Syria'

The Syrian president says the United States must leave as the Syrian people will no longer accept illegal foreign presence in the country. In an interview with Russia Today, Assad said the West, led by the US and its regional allies, have left no stone unturned to inflame terrorism and hinder political process. He also hailed Russia for restraining Washington’s meddling in the region and deterring the West from launching a devastating war on Syria. Assad said the Syrian army’s repeated gains show that Washington is losing its militant cards. He added that the Syrian army will liberate areas held by US-backed SDF militants if they don’t opt for negotiations. Assad also called for improved air defenses to stop the repeated Israeli aggression against his country. Elsewhere, the Syrian president responded to a remark made by his US counterpart that referred to him as “animal Assad”.

EU urges action against Israel

Members of the European Parliament call on the international community to put pressure on Israel to cease its repressive actions against Palestinians. During a debate in the parliament, US President Donald Trump was heavily criticized for supporting the Israeli regime.

China trade warning

Beijing says the US measures against China's investments are against World Trade Organization rules, and that the country reserves the right to take counter-measures. China’s commerce ministry has, however, said that the country is not willing to see an escalation of trade tensions, and that the two countries have a huge potential for cooperation. The frictions had appeared to be cooling following Sino-US talks earlier this month, but the Trump administration said this week that it still holds a threat of imposing tariffs on Chinese imports. Washington also said that it will press ahead with restrictions on investment by Chinese companies in the United States.
