Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers vice champion in World Military Championship

The 33rd edition of the World Military Wrestling Championship kicked off in the Russian capital city of Moscow on May 14, and finished on May 20, 2018.

The Iran men’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team has produced awe-inspiring performances at the 33rd edition of the World Military Wrestling Championship in Russia, and managed to collect five medals, including one gold, to claim the second spot at the international sporting event.

Russia stood on top of the podium with a total of 209 points.

The Islamic Republic of Iran finished in the second place, having racked up 132 points.

Azerbaijan collected 119 points to occupy the third spot.

Iran’s Mohammad Nourbakhsh defeated Sanal Semenov from Russia 4-3 in the final contest of the 63-kilogram weight category to take home the gold medal.

Arman Alizadeh Abdvali got Iran's silver medal at the sports tournament with a loss to Russian contestant Sosruko Kodzokov in the 87-kilogram final encounter.

In the 60-kilogram division, Shirzad Beheshti Tala collected a bronze medal for Iran.

Moreover, Ali Akbar Heidari and Behnam Mehdizadeh emerged victorious in the repechage rounds of the 97-kilogram and 130-kilogram weight classes respectively, and earned two more bronze medals.

The tournament reportedly brought together dozens of athletes from various countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, France, Georgia, Germany, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Pakistan and South Korea.
