Israel's Gaza massacre

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have participated in mass rallies against the relocation of the US Embassy. Israeli forces have opened live fire on demonstrators killing at least 58 of them and injuring over 2700 others. Halla Alsafadi reports from Gaza.

Israeli carnage fallout

The latest Israeli massacre of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has triggered angry reactions from all over the world. The UN chief said it is important that Israel changes its use of force and minimizes the use of live ammunition. The French presidency also condemned the violence in the besieged enclave. Emmanuel Macron’s office said in a statement that he had warned repeatedly of the repercussions of the US President’s decision to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as the capital of Israel. Kuwait has also slammed the Israeli brutalities in Gaza and has requested an emergency UN Security Council meeting. Meanwhile, South Africa has recalled its ambassador to Israel while Turkey recalled its envoys both from Israel and the US in protest over the Gaza killings and called for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Israel of state terror and genocide.

Iran nuclear deal

Iran's foreign minister has accused the US of "a complete disregard for international law" over its withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal. In a letter to the UN secretary general, Mohammad Javad Zarif said the US consistently failed to abide by its commitments under the deal since Donald Trump took office. Zarif added that the US actions not only undermine the principles of peaceful settlement of disputes but endanger multilateralism. In a separate letter, Zarif requested the European Union foreign policy chief to establish a joint commission of the deal. The top Iranian diplomat is currently in the Belgian capital on the last leg of his three-nation tour aimed at saving the nuclear deal. Before heading to Brussels, Zarif talked about the purpose of his negotiations with European officials.

Reactions to US embassy move to Jerusalem al-Quds

World leaders and rights groups condemn Israel for killing dozens of Palestinians in Gaza, reiterating their opposition to the US embassy relocation from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem al-Quds.

Nigeria protests

Nigerian Police have once more attacked a peaceful protest by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. The protesters were marching to demand the release of their leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky. Press TV Correspondent Danjuma Abdullahi has this report from Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

UNSC concerned over resolution on Israel

Two-thirds of the UN Security Council members have voiced concern over the body’s failure to implement a 2016 resolution demanding an end to Israeli settlement activities. The council members wrote a letter to UN Chief, Antonio Guterres, and said the UN must stand behind its resolutions. They warned that the council’s failure will undermine the credibility of the international system. The letter, seen by Reuters, is signed by permanent members, China and France, among others. The resolution they referred to is the sole such document, not blocked by a US veto. It was passed with the backing of 14 council members and the US abstention. The resolution also underlined that the council will not recognize any territory Israel occupied after 1967, including in East Jerusalem al-Quds.

Fierce fighting in Afghanistan

Heavy clashes have erupted in Afghanistan after Taliban militants launched an attack on the western city of Farah. Fighting began overnight with the Taliban seizing a district and parts of another one. Officials say gun battle is still underway with army jets targeting Taliban positions. Government forces, including 100 commandos, have been dispatched to the scene. Local sources say eight militants have been killed during the clashes. Farah province has been the scene of clashes between Taliban and Afghan forces in the past few months. The militant group has stepped up its attacks across Afghanistan as part of its so-called Spring Offensive.
