Locals in the city of Zitlala in Mexico’s southwestern state of Guerrero participated in an age-old ritual known as Tiger Fighting, where men battle it out with a rope in order to please the God of Rain into blessing the town with rain water for their crops.

For this traditional form of combat, men dress up like Jaguars and pummel each other with clubs made of rope. The practice is believed to have been used by the Maya, Zapotecs, and Aztecs, and dates back to the earliest days of the Olmec civilization.
