US push to kill JCPOA

These are the headlines we are tracking for you in this episode of On the News Line:

US push against JCPOA

In a concerted way, US President Donald Trump has stepped up his rhetoric against Iran over its role in the region. Trump is focusing on the Iran nuclear deal which he insists is deeply flawed. Chances that the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, will survive are slim due to a number of reasons. The three European countries, which are signatories to the accord, have already resigned to Trump’s demand that it be fixed. Despite that, Iran has repeatedly said that it will never accept a renegotiation of the JCPOA.

'Reformatting the Middle East'

Russia says the United States is seeking to divide up Syria. In a meeting with his Iranian and Turkish counterparts, the Russian Foreign Minister said that statements about supporting the territorial integrity of Syria "are only words that, apparently, cover up plans for reformatting the Middle East and plans for dividing Syria up into parts." Moscow insists that the U.S. has no right to have a military presence in Syria without the permission of the government.
