US First Lady Melania Trump is virtually held prisoner at the White House by US Secret Service, suggests French First Lady Brigitte Macron, who recently spent some time with her during a three-day visit to Washington.

French President Emmanuel Macron met with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, while Melania was mostly seen unsmiling.

“She can’t put a foot outside,” Brigitte told French reporters. “Every day, I go out in Paris.”

Melania was also seen refusing to hold Trump’s hand, which caught the world media’s attention again.

“She is much more constrained than me. Melania can’t do anything. “The security is terrible. She can’t even open a window at the White House because immediately the security services call and say ‘close it.’”

The French president’s wife added that, “Everything is interpreted, over-interpreted. She’s someone who has a strong personality but she makes an effort to hide it.”

She also suggested that Trump’s wife was actually less stern that she appeared while hosting the French couple.

“On the contrary she is really fun. We have the same sense of humor. We laugh a lot together.”
