These are the headlines we are tracking for you in this episode of On the News Line:
Human rights; Trump style
The US Department of State has released its annual human rights report. The report criticizes many countries, including Iran, China, Russia and Syria. Iran and China have been accused of restricting freedom of expression. The Syrian government has been accused of cracking down on its own people and Moscow of invading its neighbors. The US regularly uses the issue of human rights to pile up economic pressure on countries that refuse to serve its interest.
Armenia in Crisis
Armenians have been protesting against their former president and the newly-appointed prime minister, Serzh Sargsyan since mid-April. They blame Sargsyan, who is now literally serving a third term in office, for the country's economic troubles over the past decade and want him to step down. The protests have clearly plunged the former Soviet republic into a political crisis with the government warning the opposition of irreversible consequences.
