Trump, as well as his top NAFTA negotiator Robert Lighthizer have pulled out of this year's Summit of the Americas, saying that he wants to focus on his response to claims of an alleged chemical weapons attack in the Syrian city of Douma.

US Vice President Mike Pence will be taking Trump's place alongside his daughter Ivanka Trump.

The eighth annual Summit of the Americas will take place in Lima from April 13-14 and will be the first Summit of the Americas not attended by a US President since the regional conference first took place in 1994.
