Trump: ‘Little Jeff Zucker’ of CNN isn’t having much fun lately

Jeff Zucker, the president of CNN

US President Donald Trump has blasted the CNN president on Twitter, saying Jeff Zucker's job is in "jeopardy."

"Check out the fact that you can’t get a job at ratings challenged @CNN unless you state that you are totally anti-Trump? Little Jeff Zucker, whose job is in jeopardy, is not having much fun lately. They should clean up and strengthen CNN and get back to honest reporting!" the president tweeted on Tuesday morning.

Trump also denounced Zucker and "low-ratings CNN" and suggested that the news network does not hire journalists unless they state their opposition to the Trump administration.

Trump has repeatedly used the term “fake news” while referring to mainstream media reports. He has suggested that a contest be held to find out which of the “fake news” networks was most "dishonest" and “corrupt”.

Meanwhile, Zucker has hit back, arguing that Fox News has become a version of "state-run TV" for the Trump administration.

"[Fox News] is really state-run TV," he said at an industry conference in March. "It is a pure propaganda machine and I think does incredible disservice to this country."

"There are a handful of good journalists there, but I think they are lost in what is a complete propaganda machine," he added last month.

As a candidate, Trump had spoken against the mainstream media threatening to "open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money."

In addition to CNN, The New York Times and NBC, as well as other mainstream media, have been blacklisted by Trump.
