Peru: Teargas flies as protesters block bridge in Olmos over new urban project

Peru

Protesters blocked a bridge in Olmos district in the Peru's province of Lambayeque on Tuesday, in a protest demanding the authorities to stop the construction of the so-called "New City of Olmos."

A group of locals blocked a road using rocks and setting tyres aflame. Upon throwing smoke bombs at the police, police responded with teargas.

Residents of the area are calling on the government not to invest money in the new project, but to develop the infrastructure of the existing towns in the district of Olmos.
