US: Gunman shot dead after standoff with police in Princeton

A gunman was killed in a police-involved shooting, in Princeton, New Jersey, on Tuesday, after being engaged in an hours-long standoff inside a Panera Bread restaurant.

According to officials, police received a call, reporting about an armed man inside the restaurant, around 10:00 local time [14:00 GMT]. After arriving to the scene, they surrounded the building.

Officers had been negotiating with the suspect in a five-hour standoff. However, all the attempts to get the man to surrender peacefully reportedly turned out to be unsuccessful.

The reason behind the standoff is still not clear. It is also reported that all the customers and employees were able to escape the restaurant unharmed.
