UK arms deals with Saudi Arabia

The UK moves closer to signing a Typhoon jet deal with the Saudis;  Britain’s biggest arms manufacturer, BAE Systems, is completing an order worth billions of pounds from Saudi Arabia for the purchase of 48 Typhoon fighter jets. The announcement came at the end of a three-day visit to the UK by the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Although the order could help save jobs, it faced widespread criticism.  While London is looking for new post-Brexit markets, bin Salman is going to convince investors that his country is a tolerant and modernizing place.

Syrian army Ghouta operation

The Syrian army is successfully pushing ahead a campaign against the terrorists in Eastern Ghouta near capital Damascus. On Saturday, the army - which has already liberated more than half of enclave from terrorist hands - made a significant advancement. It cut off Eastern Ghouta’s largest town of Douma from the rest of it thus dealing a strong blow to the terrorists.  All the current signs show the Syrian army is on its way to take back what is believed to be the last stronghold of the terrorists.  Eastern Ghouta is home to around 400,000 people. They are living under a five-year siege that has made food and medical aid exceedingly rare.
