Timing of US-led military drills weighs on Korean peace

The timing of US-led military exercises with South Korea weighs heavily on the prospects for a reduction of tensions and lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula. Officials in both Seoul and Washington have confirmed the drills will go ahead sometime this year. The US State Department has also revealed that North Korea scuttled a potential meeting with US Vice President Mike Pence during the ongoing winter Olympics.
