Oxfam crisis

OXFAM sex scandal

These are the headlines we are tracking for you in this episode of On the News Line:

Oxfam crisis

Prominent aid organizations flocked to Haiti in 2010 soon after a devastating earthquake killed some 200,000 people of the Caribbean country. British charity Oxfam was among those agencies whose employees were dispatched to the quake-hit areas. After more than seven years, Oxfam has recently been rocked by allegations of sexual misconduct by its aid workers in Haiti. The men involved in the alleged sexual misconduct-among them Oxfam’s director in Haiti Roland van Hauwermeiren- lost their jobs. But the charity is accused of covering up the scandal.  Hauwermeiren, however, denies any wrongdoing. Britain’s international Development Secretary has threatened to cut the charity's government funding, which stood at around 32 million pounds last year. That accounts for about eight percent of the Oxfam's income.

Mueller indictments

It was a moment many expected for long. US Special Counsel Muller accused 13 Russians of an elaborate scheme to disrupt America’s 2016 presidential election. Mueller charged the Russians together with three companies with running a huge but hidden social media trolling campaign aimed in part at helping Republican Donald Trump defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton. The indictment, which has been widely described as extraordinary, represents the most detailed allegations to date of illegal Russian meddling during the campaign that gave Trump the ticket to the office.
