Germany: Police and protesters clash in Anti-Merkel rally in Hamburg

Hamburg

Anti-Merkel demonstrators were met with Antifa counter-protests in Hamburg on Monday, amid a heavy police presence.

About 230 people demonstrated against German Chancellor Angela Merkel under the slogan 'Merkel Muss Weg' ('Merkel must go'), while some 800 left-wing demonstrators gathered to counter-protest.

Anti-Merkel demonstrators held signs calling on the borders to be closed and to "end the Merkel dictatorship."

Left-wing demonstrators chanted "We are all antifascists" and held signs condemning the far-right presence in the German Bundestag.
